Why this newsletter?
My interest in these issues is new compared to the many people doing excellent work. I’m more of an outsider looking in from a background in policy, strategy and innovation. I hope I can bring a helpful, different set of eyes to things.
My day at Brentford's game against Manchester United in August 2022 was memorable in more ways than one. Apart from the great result, it was also played in some of the hottest-ever temperatures for a Premier League match. At the same time, I’d been seeing my son’s son's youth team have matches and training sessions called off due to extreme weather. These events sparked an interest in wanting to know more about the connections between football and climate change.
Looking to get my head around it all, I could see that fans, players, clubs, and organisations are taking action. But finding that information in one place, and understanding what was useful and what was not could be a challenge.
This newsletter seeks out, and shares, the latest news and developments and provides reflections on them. It also brings together handy resources already out there in one place. In addition it includes occasional guest posts from practitioners and experts.
The balance of content is towards the game in England - as that is where I’m based - but the aim is to be open and global to all that’s out there. A lot is happening, but more is needed. By building a greater understanding, I hope this can help contribute to more and better action.
All feedback is welcome!
